What We Do

The Charity Patchwork was set up in order:

To help and educate young people between the ages of 5 and 25 years resident in the West End of Newcastle Upon Tyne and the surrounding area, including those who are involved in the Criminal Justice System or at risk of becoming involved in the Criminal Justice System,  without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, race or political, religious or other opinion, through their leisure time activities so to develop their physical, mental and spiritual capacities that they might grow to full maturity as Individuals and members of society and so that their conditions of life may be improved.

Outcomes we seek through our work:

  • Curiosity = a growing courage and awareness that questions taken-for-granted norms, attitudes and beliefs
  • An increasing rejection of damaging values and the testing and use of new values that benefit both themselves and others.
  • A growing recognition of your own value and identity to the world you live in and a willingness to contribute that value

The needs we seek to address;

  • The need of access to social and informal education so that social inclusion, citizenship and opportunities to contribute to the community are improved. In order to increase individual and social well-being.
  • The need of support in relation to confidence and personal belief in order to access mainstream services; employment, training, health and dental services, social and policing services etc.
  • The need to access leisure time play and positive activities that improve understanding of boundaries, rights and responsibilities,
  • The need to have these things accessible locally
  • These needs are exasperated by those participating living in areas of high deprivation and attending limitations on family and individual opportunity.
